Union Football Club ? Yes, we have the correct name for the sport. It actually
wasn't until 1974 that the United States Soccer Federation (U.S.S.F) dropped the word 'Football' from its name.
The Oneida Football Club in Boston was the first club outside
England to use the word 'football.' We have decided to call the sport what it was originally
called: Football, Voetbal, Futebol, Association Football, Le Foot,
Fusball etc..............We are following what other 'Soccerfied' countries such as Australia have
done recently,, which is to call the game by its proper name: 'Football'. |

Our appointed coaches only work with other players and teams in addition to their obligatory responsibilities, if there is no overlap or conflict of duties. All our coaching staff will give the fullest commitment to all team training and games, and we will put an enormous amount of energy into developing every player. We look forward to taking on the challenges ahead. |

OUR MISSION: |

|
|
To create a superior, professionally coached and managed Class 1 & 3 Soccer Club, for both boys & girls team’s. The primary objective is expressly for the purpose of improving the ability of individual players within the framework of the team.
We will achieve this by working repetitively on technique. Without the fundamental understanding of the player/ ball relationship, you cannot begin to effectively teach and utilize the variety of options in the tactical game. And, in order that you can utilize all these personal skills fully, a sound physical fitness must be achieved. There is not much success derived of thinking a good game, ultimately, you must be able to execute the skills in competition. Technique is a broad term, which encompasses all the relevant skills needed to perform with composure and thus derive greater enjoyment. Tactics will always depend on team talent, opposition and field conditions. Physical conditioning means more than running hard and fast, it also encompasses flexibility, agility, balance, timing and rhythm. We try to cover the spectrum, creating a well-balanced athlete, able to play at the next level. |

PARENTS: |

We have observed the player/coach/parent scenario for many years at all levels and age groups. Fully understanding that the excitement of watching your child out there in the thick of the action can lead to some, what we would describe as, ‘mixed messages’ coming from the sidelines. The kids are training all week in an educational environment and are encouraged to perform the skills and tactics as best they understand them. Consequently, when we instruct them in a variety of aspects of team play, they are trying to think about their actions and develop a field awareness, both on and off the ball.
- We do not want to hear any ‘coaching’, unless from coaches.
- We do not want any ‘words’ with opposing players, parents, referees or linesmen.
- We do not want to hear from spectators such phrases as; ‘get rid of it’, ‘boot it’, ‘hustle’, ‘shoot it’, ‘charge’ or any well intentioned instructions which a spectator may see as beneficial at the time, but may have the opposite effect we desire.
Our UNION F.C staff are a group of former Professional players with much playing experience in several countries. We all very much like to win, though just as important, as sportsmen, we know how to lose. |

TRAINING AND GAMES: |
|
|

|
|
Players must attend all training sessions, at least 2 per week, and games. Obviously, if there are circumstances beyond anybody’s control, we understand. If there is illness, for example, an attempt to give notice should be made before training, preferably by email. We believe it is fundamentally unfair to the team if players are not attending training and still get playing time. Conflicts with other sports are not in the best interests of the teams growth and development. Players need to be sure that they want to commit to the team fully. We will have a fall season and a spring season and imagine that the team will enter two or three fall season tournaments and compete in at least one tournament in the Spring in addition to State Cup and possibly the Spring League. The more competetive teams will attempt to compete in the Nomads and Surf Cups among others.
The team is always interested in looking at new talent, whether from within UNION FC, or from outside the club on an ongoing basis. |

CLUB HISTORY: |
|
|

|
|
The club was formed after a group of highly experienced coaches and administrators decided to fulfill the needs and expectations of highly committed and ambitious players who are seeing to improve their game and reach a different level through their own efforts. We want Union F.C to be the home for these players who share their ambition and passion for the game with others. Players wishing to play collegiate soccer one day (and these may be 6-7 year olds, as our coaches were!) should know that our club is the right place for them.
For over 14 years our coaching staff have worked with players of all levels, both boys and girls and have succeeded in helping these players achieve considerable success in the game. While these players may have progressed at different levels, the common characteristic that all of these players have possesed is that they were all passionate about the sport, just as our coaches are.
It is highly unusual that our coaches aren't on the field at east once per day, week after week, year after year. Indeed, all of our coaches and trainers are former professional players and still play in competetive leagues, with some still on their national teams. Our coaching staff is arguably the highest quality and most experienced in the region.
We expect our players to be fully committed to progressing in the sport and stress the importance of goal setting through additional and supplemental training with our professional coaching staff. Three (3) days a week is our minimum requirement with many of our players doing additional 'skill building' days. Over the years our coaches have assisted players achieve collegiate positions, with some of them returning to the club to coach after enjoying successful collegiate and proffesional coaching careers.
One of the problems in youth soccer is poor alignment of player and coaching ambitions and the mismanagent of these relationships which inevitably lead to disagreements, misunderstandings and frustration. For example, there is little point in teams hiring professional coaches if only 2-3 players in a team are serious student/athletes.The not so serious players are not as committed as the coach would hope for and the better players feel held back. Typically these teams continue on as 'social teams' but they often lose high quality coaches the better players.
In the past we have succesfully taken AYSO and Class 3 teams up to Class 1 divisions, winning leagues and many class 1 tournaments, including finalists in the Dallas Cup. This was done through positive alignment; i.e. the correct configuration of coaching, player and club philosophies. It is important to understand that all players participating in our programs realise that they should come to this club to embark on a philosophy of 'continuous improvement'. Our professional coaches demand that players exercise excellent self discipline in all aspects of their lives associated with athletics, inlcuding education, nutrition and positive social habits and skills. It our goal to help our players to improve not only as team members but as special individuals in their formative, pre-collegiate carreers. |
